St Michael’s Church ChoirThe Church Choir is a robed choir with tenor, bass, sopranos, trebles but no altos. There is a need for new members. In addition to altos we particularly need bassess and tenors as the present men are elderly and may not be able to continue for much longer. At the moment the sopranos are taking turns to sing an arranged harmony taken from the alto and tenor lines. This, sung with the melody, gives a two part tune, challenges the ladies' skills and goes some way to giving a fulsome sound to the music. Descants are frequently sung and also Anthems for special occasions. The 11.00am Sunday Service is the main sung service. Hymns are taken from Ancient and Modern New Standard and from Complete Anglican Hymns Old and New. Eucharist settings include Burton, Appleford, Schubert, Handel and Taizé community so there is a good mixture of music for all tastes. The choir is also in demand at weddings, funerals and small concerts. Junior choir has 4 members who are encouraged to attend services and to take part in the After School Club on Thursdays when musci, craft and drama are available. The Royal School of Church Music's ‘Voice for Life’ training scheme for choristers is available for all ages from teenagers to adults and one member is working for her second stage badge. Choir practice takes place on Thursdays from 6.15pm to 7.15pm and it is planned to rehearse the Juniors for 20 minutes prior to each 11.00am service. The music for the services is planned once a month by the vicar, choir director and organist and at each choir rehearsal there is a choir slip for each member, giving the items to be sung and where to find them. This preparation helps everyone to be prepared and rehearsed for Sunday and serves as a reminder on the day. Our immediate aims are to pay particular attention to diction and dyanmics. The long term goals are to recruit singers and increase the repetoire in all areas. Through our singing we hope to unite and enable the worship of the Assembly. |

The T GroupThrough Tears to TranquillityThe parish offers support to local people who have been recently bereaved. This support includes the T Group. The T Group meets on the second Wednesday of the month in St Michael’s Parish Church from 3.00pm – 4.00pm. The T Group meetings are organised by those who themselves have suffered a bereavement.
